Thomas Carew  की कविता : असल स्वाणी  (गढ़वाली अनुवाद )

Thomas Carew got educated   at Merton College, Oxford and the Middle Temple in London and later worked as a diplomatic secretary in Italy, Holland and France, and soon gained a reputation as a poet.

He was a favorite of king charles I .He was eventually appointed to an office at the court of King Charles I, where he was  much admired for his poetical talent.

He modelled his style on Ben Jonson and John Donne and wrote mainly love poetry such as The Rapture and some epitaphs. He also wrote a masque, Coelum Britannicum, which was performed for the King.I  in his Elegy Carew proclaims Donne 'the universal monarchy of wit'. 

Another poet he admired greatly was the Italian Giambattista Marino, whose wit and extravagant lifestyle resembled Carew's own. 







   

The True Beauty 

He that loves a rosy cheek
Or coral lip admires,
Or from star-like eyes doth seek
Fuel to maintain his fires ;
As old Time makes these decay,
So his flames must waste away.

But a smooth and steadfast mind,
Gentle thoughts, and calm desires,
Hearts with equal love combined,
Kindle never-dying fires :-
Where these are not, I despise
Lovely cheeks or lips or eyes.

जू करद प्यार गुलाबी  गलोडियूँ  से

अर पसंद करद मूंगा जन्न हौंठ

अर गैणा जन्न सुन्दर आँखौं से

बलद अप्डी प्रेम जोत

बुझ जान्द सदनी खुण वा

किल्लेकी बुस्सै जन्दी सब्बी  धाणी दगड बगताऽक 

पर एक  एकढब्ब अर मजबूत मन्न 

भल्ला  विचार अर शांत इच्छा

एक जन्न प्रीत  मा बंधी द्वी जिकुड़ी 

दीन्दी जलंम  अमर प्रेम थेय 

नि छीं यी जक्ख ,मी घिणान्दू वक्ख

देखिक  सुन्दर गलोडियूँ अर ओंठडियूँ अर आँखौं थेय
